Japanese Samurai Traveling Cape, Dochu Gappa #2106
Japanese Samurai Traveling Cape, Dochu Gappa  The dochu cape comes from the influence of the Portuguese and was worn by the Samurai. The inner layer is cotton indigo kasuri and indigo shima is the cape's outer layer. Between the two layers of indigo cloth, is a layer that sounds like crinkly brown paper, perhaps a water proof type of oilcloth. It is in overall good condition, but please note that there is some staining and the original ties are missing and closures are now held together with old white ties. Dates Meiji or earlier.
